2 Ingredient Homemade Super Healthy Dip / Spread

September 23, 2011

My  kids love to dip everything from carrots to pretzels in humus. Wanting to jazz up our hum-drum humus rut, I whipped this 2 ingredient dip up on a whim, the kids and this mama are happy to report. YUM!

This dip is not only REALLY easy to make with a mere 2 ingredients, but versatile too. High in protein and vitamins I don’t even really care if they just lick it off their carrots or pretzel sticks.

On a diet? Use this as a wonderful lower-fat substitute for where ever you use nut butters  (i.e.PB&J’s and oatmeal)

Homemade Super Healthy Dip / Spread

Yields approx: 1/2 pint

Ingredients

Nut Butter – 2 heaping TBSP (I used almond butter but any nut butter would work well)

Banana – 1 medium, the riper the better

Method

Scoop nut butter into food processor and break banana flesh into chunks. Process. Enjoy.

Variations

Add 1/2 tsp maple syrup for added sweetness if needed

Add 1 tsp chocolate syrup for a tasty special treat

Add 1 -2 tsp ground flax or wheat germ if you think your kids can handle the texture

Use different fruit purees.. Pumpkin-banana-PB with a dash of pumpkin pie spice, maple syrup, and vanilla is DIVINE!

Use your imagination! Have a favorite dip variation? Please share it below. Thanks! 🙂

Now dip baby dip!

Sounds fab, though I have a feeling Max wouldn’t be as into it as me! I bet you could use left over pumpkin or fruit butters with nut butters to make this dip. I know you and bananas don’t mix.
